Colorado March 2nd to March 7th

Last week I was in Colorado for a showing of paintings. Like last time I was with my son Graeme who also had some of his works on display. We had a ball at our gallery outlet in Aspen and then in Beaver Creek. The staff in both are absolutely superb! To be with well run galleries is a dream for any artist and I must say that we are blessed.

Graeme and I at Beaver Creek Fine Art. His works look better and better… according to the patrons as well!
Sunday I did a stint on local TV and chatted about painting and world it lives in. A nice interview that caused a few locals to track me down and corner me with some bouncy questions. Pattie and Steve from New Orleans shared with me the Katrina experience and invited me to visit their legal chambers when next in their part of the world! I expect to be there for the forthcoming Jazz Festival but more for a beer and a bit of soft shoe I gladly informed them. Top folk! So many people and all of the best nature with an obvious zest for life. Monday Bill and Wendy, our agents and the best people in the world organized a shoot for us with Ted upland, about 10 miles, from Carbondale. The purpose was the get material for another ‘shooter’ painting. The last one I did was collected by one of the Executives of the NRA and I was left a kind message to ‘please do another’. The previous one was memorable-powerful, quiet and calculating with a lot of subtle atmosphere! This one I wanted to set in the snow with the cowboy on the horse like the previous one but with a flurry drifting gently about him. Well I didn’t get the flurry but I did get some pretty good shots. And for Graeme it was pretty special-his first shoot in the snow!

Bill Gaurding The Camermen From Australia
What’s so great about painting is the wealth of material that is simply within arms reach when you want it. But I must say it is a whole bunch easier when you have good friends to help! Bill is happy to get dressed up in almost anything western, and always looks great, even though his background is urban New York! Wendy looks good anytime- but with a rifle a little more challenging than usual!

Wendy Standing Firm!
We moved Ted into just about every possible position looking for that perfect posture. My instructions were, “Ted, take good aim and make sure you get me”! I was using my 70-200mm 2.8 lens and was able to pull him up into frame enough to get the squint of him looking through the sights down the barrel.

Ted Taking Very Very Good Aim At Me.
So would he have hit me? No doubt from the distance I was at. Point is I got a good shot of Ted at the same time and look forward to ‘bagging’ him in my next painting. I think Graeme might have a shot at him as well.

Who’s shooting who here?
Let’s see what happens in Wet Canvas.
